Hall who served in the Wisconsin State Assembly); moved with his parents to Waukau, Wisconsin, in Winnebago County, in 1847, thence to Grand Rapids, Wisconsin, in 1856; attended the common schools, the local academy at Elgin, Illinois, and Markham Academy, Milwaukee, Wisconsin served as a private in Company K, 42nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment, during the Civil War; settled near Birch Coulee, Renville County, Minnesota, in 1866 and engaged in agricultural pursuits until 1868; auditor of Renville County 1869 – 1873; clerk of the district court 1873 – 1878; member of the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1876; editor of the Renville Times, which he founded in 1876. His parents both died in 1878 of yellow fever in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.〔Our Own Reporter.
